Nothing to see here, move along, move along.

Blogger has changed its policy back to allowing kinky people to stay!

Well that was a lot to do about nothing.  It seems that Google/Blogger has decided to continue to let us stay here.

Stories about this are available from ABC News, The Verge, Engadget, and more.  Just... ahem... Google it.

I had actually decided today to transfer this blog over to Wordpress.  But once I got the basics set up, I realized just how much of a nightmare it was going to be.  I currently have 600 Posts and over 2600 comments.  I woulnd't want to lose any of those.  If I moved them all over post by post I would have to move over 20 posts every single day.  A lot of my posts are cross populated (linking to each other) so those links would have to either be removed or simply point to the wrong thing.  I'd have to upload all of the images again, and Wordpress handles images in a vastly different way than blogger does.

Nightmare.

So... thankfully this doesn't have to happy.  I'll be keeping my eyes open though... if they tried this once theres no reason they won't try it again.  I would go ahead and move my blog anyway just to be safe (fool me once...), but then again there's no guarantee that wordpress wouldn't do the same exact thing with their free service.  And as much as I want to keep this blog up as an archive, I have no desire to pay money for that privilege.

So, a big thank you goes out to everybody that rose hell about this issue.  You've all done our comminity a great service!

Oh... and if you're curious, this is roughly what this blog would have looked like over at Wordpress:

Since I've registered it and all, I'm going to keep that up.  I may or may not utilize it.

  1. Hey Calv,

Wordpress is hell to use - I know because I had to learn to use it during my training course in Photoshop - plus you have to pay for the "advanced features"

I just read over this, and then a couple of minutes later over this piece of information. My hearth just sank down the river. I dunno how I would manage to traverse all the content I have created..

I have some backups from the contents I have made but surely not everything, that's just to much..

    1. Yes, it's good news all around that we don't have to move all of our stuff around. Just looking at how daunting it was, I was giving serious reconsideration to NOT moving it.

I'm not sure I'd call Wordpress Hell... but it wasn't as intuitive as Blogger. And yes, I kept coming up against the 'pay to get this feature' wall while playing around with it. But then again, that's their business model. Let you in the door for free only to entice you into buying a full package. Blogger is all about the free.

    1. Hiya Ian! I hate to say it, but I didn't realize you had a blog. I've corrected that by visiting and adding my two cents to your post. I've also added you to my blog roll so that I can keep up with you a little easier.
