My initial thought was showing someone VERY oblivious. The best example I can think of is Angel's own "Bath Toy". But having Stana be the star, I highly doubted that there was an XXX rated or even mildly erotic image of her. That is until I found this image.
Damn, I always thought of her as sexy, but I hadn't seen her like this! There were plenty of her dressed up as Becket (from the TV show Castle... a fav of mine), and many of her dressed up on the red carpet, but not to many like this. When I saw it my first thought in the oblivious style was that she was out doing the lawn, while arguing with her friends about her 'changes'. So I started writing. The cap came out as is minus the 'going down' references. I liked it, but had my heart on something a little dirtier. So I added that part knowing that no one would deny Caitlyn's 'Appreciation'
The one issue I have with this style is working in the femme name. It seems like it would be hard to be oblivious to having a feminine name. It might work with Chris, or Erin, or something other that has a masculine equivalent... but Caitlyn doesn't sound masculine at all. Although that might be part of the draw.
Anyway, this is my first 'Oblivious' style caption. You tell me... how did I do?

ReplyDeleteThe way to handle most "oblivious" captions I believe is to think of them like a Three's Company sitcom, where the more over the top you go, the more fun it can be. Making a justification of whatever behavior exhibited, no matter how ludicrous, works because people always try to find some rationalization that disguises the truth. Occam's Razor never seems to be in play.
I love the concept of them, but it isn't the easiest thing in the world to make them consistently. They definitely can break up the day though!
I definitely think you managed to take the idea and run with it. The oblivious style doesn't work with every story or picture, but I really think you managed to put it together quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteThough I do think you are laying the flattery on a bit thick. I'd hardly describe any of my work as 'masterful'.
That aside though, I think it is safe to say that this caption will make a good entry into the Oblivion Folder. Yes, I'm fully aware that likely no one will get that joke.
